Our group and guides
Well I'm pleased to tell you all that I have completed the trek. At times it was really hard work but it was always quite amazing to be in such a fantastic environment and to marvel at the magnificence of the Inca work. We were a mixed group of 9 people from various backgrounds although I was with my friend and walking partner Neil.
Dead Woman's Pass - 4200 metres
The group members ranged in age from 28 to 59. There were 2 excellent guides, Zac and Chino supported by 19 porters including our cook, Claito, and our waiter, Ernesto. Trekking in style!
Ours was a 4 day trek rising to some 14,000 feet (4,200metres) above sea level. In all we had to walk up 7,000 feet and down about 6,800 feet. We enjoyed fantastic weather with rain once during the night. This made the trekking that much more enjoyable.
In Cuzco Market / Caught by 7.00am
I saw humming birds just 8 feet away from me and a small flock of wild green parrots flying around the cliff face.
I met people who had almost nothing yet possessed a generous spirit - always a smile and always willing to help. A fascinating culture.
There were wild orchids, rabbits and alpaca. We wandered through a cloud forest where trees were thickly draped with lichens, ferns and mosses.
